Cape Point Vineyards Stonehaven Sauvignon Blanc 2009 90 Points

Stonehaven is a discontinued line within Cape Point Vineyards range, if my memory serve me good, 2009 was the last vintage, thereafter not mistaken all fruits were channelled to CPV site specific range, I bought 2 cases of the 2009 back then and have enjoyed most bottles up until 2011, the remaining were completely forgotten until today!
Color is still impressively pale for a 5+ years Sauvignon, (in a blind tasting it will be near impossible to conclude age) probably due to their relatively low pH’s, however I am not too sure of their recent vintages, both straight Sauvignon and Isliedh, as they seem to be on a faster evolution curve, both on color developments and aromatics……change of style, later pickings ?
Delicately pure with subtle pyrazine notes, shows some salty nori sheet seaweed character, there is still fruits! In fine form with very good bottle developments with sound structure for possibly another 3+ years in bottle, quite Loire”ish”, surprise indeed considering the price paid back then, under R 50/bottle, testament of the age ability of South African Sauvignon, long persistent length with slight phenolic farewell adds interest.
